INTRODUCTION:

Soniferous is a fancy science word for vocal, and passive acoustics is a sampling technique that enables you to listen to and record underwater sound. Passive acoustics is a useful tool in fish surveys.  Just by listening to the sounds of vocal fish you can determine their temporal and spatial distribution patterns, habitat use, spawning, feeding, and predator avoidance behaviors.  Using passive acoustics enables us to collect all this data without disturbing the fish or it’s habitat.
